An electronic device causes a plane fire; five injured

A fire aboard a JetBlue Airways plane forced more than 160 passengers to evacuate using evacuation slides at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York on Saturday.

The incident may have started because of an electronic device and is being investigated, reports CNN.

“JetBlue Flight 662 from Bridgetown, Barbados, was evacuated shortly after landing at JFK Airport in New York following reports of a customer’s faulty electronic device or battery,” said JetBlue spokesman Derek Dombrowski.

A total of 167 people were evacuated using emergency slides, the New York Fire Department said.

Five passengers were slightly injured.

“Safety is always our top priority,” added the spokesman.
