Rio Reynaldo da Costa Boury died early Sunday (25th) in São Paulo at the age of 90. A great director of Brazilian television, he was admitted to the Albert Einstein Hospital and suffered from septic shock. The wake will take place this afternoon at the Parque dos Ipês Cemetery and Crematorium.
In recent years, the veteran has been in charge of children’s soap operas such as “Carrossel” (2012), “Chiquititas” (2013), “Cúmplices de um Resgate” (2015) and “As Aventuras de Poliana” (2018) on SBT. ). Silvio Santos’ broadcaster regretted Reynaldo’s death.
“SBT is saddened by the loss of the great director and dear colleague and friend, wishes God comfort to his family at this time and is sure his works will always be remembered with great affection by the entire Brazilian public who always followed by the soap operas he directed,” the note said.
The director began his career in Brazilian television, where he held technical roles as caboman and cinematographer before becoming image director of the extinct TV Tupi. In 1960 he moved to TV Excelsior, where he began his career directing telenovelas, after being responsible for such classics as Redenção (1966).
In 1970 he went to TV Globo, where he worked for 41 years and was responsible for hits like “Selva de Pedra” (1972), “Sinhá Moça” (1986) and “Tieta” (1989) alongside the two versions of “Irmãos Courage “, issued in 1970 and 1995.
Reynaldo started a family on and off television, with his children Alexandre Boury also directing soap operas and Margareth Boury writing. In addition to his grandson, actor Guilherme Boury, with whom he has worked in “Chiquititas” and “As Aventuras de Poliana”.
“Today heaven is celebrating but here we are very sad and bleak, I wanted so much to hug you one last time but in life things don’t happen the way we want them to. God is in charge and he wanted it that way. Far from family, with a tight and aching heart, rest in peace grandpa,” the actor wrote in an Instagram post.
The director’s daughter also vented on social media. “It is with great regret that I have to announce the death of my father. Today. The ceremony will take place in Parque dos Ipês. #RIP beloved father. An infinite sadness,” informed Margareth Boury.
