early career
The artist was born on June 14, 1957 in London. He started his career as a DJ and was the founder of Soul Food Cafe Systemhis first band that played with several artists including Jamiroquai. Jazz 1995 with Sister Bliss, I roll (real name Rowland Constantine O’Malley Armstrong) and Jamie Cotto he formed Faithless, a band characterized by the fusion of hip hop and dance.
The debut of Faithless
Faithless recorded their debut album, Reverance, in 1996, which featured the song “Insomnia,” considered one of the most popular dance songs of all time. The next album, 1998’s Sunday 8PM, was nominated for the Merkur Music Prizewith the hit single God is a dj, which earned the group a nomination for British Award. The band recorded eight albums until 2011 when they disbanded. Jazz then reassembled the line-up in 2015–2016. He later formed his own group, Maxi Jazz & The E-Type Boys.
For Faithless, jazz was fundamental, both lyrically and in terms of its performative side, as a captivating, unique and unrepeatable style. The musician was also an active member of the Soka Gakkaithe Japanese school of Buddhism.
