This historic challenge they have inherited cannot be met by one government, let alone one president alone, Chaves stressed in a Christmas message from the Costa Rican Presidency, broadcast Sundays on the usual national radio and television channel.
“We will do this as a single people because we have shown Ticos that, if we want, we are the example for the whole world,” stressed the President, who recalled that just over seven months ago of His compatriots were given the responsibility of bringing work back to Costa Rica.
I think we understood the mandate (he took office on May 8th). They wish that blessed little green part of the planet, where optimism, work and happiness have always breathed, to become the happiest country on earth again. I believe that all Ticos want to be and live Pura Vida again, he said.
So, he was implying, they have to get to work, decide and improve, because we all have to move this forward, and he said the government has been focused on concrete action, things to lower the cost of living, and they’ve been very worked hard to reactivate the economy to create jobs.
Likewise, he continued, they have responded swiftly and boldly to the ravages of nature, they are improving infrastructure, and they have been, and continue to be, relentless in their quest for transparency. At any cost, whoever gets angry is angry, we won’t back down, he stressed.
Do I dream that I speak optimistically to you? he asked and replied that he had been taught at home since childhood that the fall doesn’t matter, but the moment they say I get up again, I clean the chollone (superficial wounds), wipe away tears, and when I say let’s keep moving forward, because that’s the goal, moving forward, in the future.
He emphasized that Costa Rica “has a bright future, but achieving it is not easy. Indeed, the efforts we must make as a country will be hard. The good news is that we’re already on our feet.”
However, Chaves said he sadly acknowledges that there are thousands of compatriots who are struggling today.
For this reason, he declared: “If we all do what we must do, if we push this precious car that is our blessed Costa Rica forward with courage, patriotism and love, and if we work with optimism, we will achieve our goal: to improve our own lives and more.” It is important that the next generation grows up in a better country.”
He concluded that all the staff of the Presidency of the Republic wish their compatriots that the year 2023 restores health and jobs to all of Costa Rica.
