Police have arrested a boy after a video showing him mercilessly beating a girl went viral on social media. The incident took place in an area under Rewa’s Mauganj Police Station in Madhya Pradesh, where he kicked her face and entire body so severely that she lost consciousness, all of which was caught on camera. The defendant was identified as Pankaj Tripathi.
Police arrested him from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday 24 December 2022 after video of the attack surfaced on social media. Inspector Shweta Maurya, in charge of the police station, was suspended for negligence related to the incident. The house of the accused Pankaj Tripathi in Rewa was also leveled to the ground by the district administration with a bulldozer. He brutally beat the 19-year-old teenager on camera for refusing to marry him.

Two days ago, a video went viral on social media. In this video, the young girl spoke about marrying the teenage abuser. Meanwhile, the accused youth asked the videomaker to stop filming the video and after that he started hitting the girl. The boy first grabbed the girl, threw her to the ground, and then kicked her face and other parts of her body several times. When the girl stopped responding to the attack as she had passed out, he also left her standing, holding her hand and examining her.

Initially, Pankaj was detained under Section 151 (Disturbing the Public Peace) of the IPC, but he was released because the girl refused to report it.
However, after the video of the incident went viral, strict action against the accused was demanded on social media. Pressure was put on the police to apprehend the accused. The police formed a team to investigate and contacted the girl. After she filed a complaint against the accused, a case was registered and he was arrested in Mirzapur. The defendant was charged under Section 323 (voluntarily causing injury) and other relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code. After that, a team of tax and police officers arrived at the defendant’s home, where his house was bulldozed.
CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan tweeted: “In the brutal incident involving a young woman in Mauganj area of Rewa district, criminal Pankaj Tripathi was arrested and his house bulldozed. Driver Pankaj’s driver’s license was also revoked. No one is spared for committing atrocities against women on the soil of Madhya Pradesh.”

SP Navneet Bhasin said he had suspended station house officer Shweta Maurya. The investigation of the case was handed over to the additional SP Mauganj Vivek Kumar Lal. One case was registered under sections 366, 294, 323, 506 and 363 of the IPC and the IT Act.
Another defendant, Bharat Saket, who made the video viral, was also arrested. It is said that the girl’s family previously refused to complain about this. However, when the video later went viral, the need for action increased. The people demanded action against the accused Pankaj.
