‘It’s very uplifting when I’m feeling tired’: Brenda Edwards reflects on her winning performance at Britain Get Singing, which she dedicated to her late son Jamal, as she thanks the Loose Women for their help during ‘this terrible year’

Brenda Edwards has reflected on her Britain Get Singing performance, dedicated to her late son Jamal, and thanked her fellow Loose Women for helping her through “this terrible year”.

The TV presenter, singer and actress, 53, took the stage on Christmas Eve where she and her co-stars squared off against competition from the Love Islanders, The Chasers, soap stars from Emmerdale and Coronation Street.

After leaving viewers in tears with her emotional performance of A Bridge Over Troubled Water, Brenda wished her fans a Merry Christmas and looked back on a tough 2022.

Brenda wrote to her 114,000 followers on Instagram on Christmas Day, revealing that she’s had a difficult year, aside from suddenly losing her son in February.

Brenda said: “This year has done everything that could go wrong for me, starting with my baby Jamal, then a broken ankle and now for the better part of this week on the anniversary of the death of my mother and father 48 years ago…

“I’ve been hit with this horrible flu virus which has unfortunately resulted in not being able to do my shows at @newwimbledontheatre.

“But like Arnie says I’ll be back, I’m determined to come back and I’ve really missed the Snow White gang who are all so talented.

“Being asked to be part of Get Britain Singing was an honor as singing and music is a big part of my life and the life of my whole family.

“There’s so much joy in singing, it’s very uplifting when I’m feeling tired, and it will always offer me that bridge to find a little peace across choppy waters.

“So grateful to have shared this with the @loosewomen @1judilove @kelle.bryan @lindarobson58 @coleen_nolan @denise_welch thanks to all the viewers who voted for our win, that was such a shock!

“Thank you @iamwill @aleshaofficial @adamlambert @jasonmanford for all your words of encouragement it meant so much and thank you to all the easy going women family for supporting me and helping me get through this horrible year.

I can’t thank you enough. I love you all very much. See you in the new year! And to my Snow White family, I hope to be back on stage with you all as soon as possible to finish my Spirit of Panto role #getbritainsinging #selfbelief #bridgeovertroubledwater #sing.”

ITV daytime panellists Brenda Edwards, Denise Welch, Coleen Nolan and Linda Robinson took the stage on the Christmas Eve special to perform Simon and Garfunkel’s classic ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’.

TV audiences gave the group a standing ovation after they sang, while viewers at home were moved to tears when they were announced as the winners.

The ladies looked glamorous as they took the stage, each wearing silver sequined outfits that shone under the bright studio lights.

They competed against groups from some of Britain’s biggest television shows, including soap operas Emmerdale and Coronation Street, and reality series Love Island.

But it was the Loose Women who wowed judges Will.i.am, Alesha Dixon, Jason Manford and Adam Lambert and viewers alike.
