Mac Jones faces possible suspension after dirty play against Bengals

There could be repercussions for Mac Jones’ low block on Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Eli Apple in Saturday’s game at Gillette Stadium.

Apple has already come out, calling the New England Patriots quarterback’s block a “dirty play.” The NFL is reportedly reviewing the game with the possibility that disciplinary action may follow.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio wrote:

“According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the league will review the blow to Apple’s lower leg for possible disciplinary action no later than Monday, Tuesday.” A suspension is currently considered unlikely, but is one of the possible penalties.”

The game came during a fumbled back try by Bengals linebacker Germaine Pratt. Jones could be seen making an off-the-ball low block on Apple who was after the runner. The pass was deemed incomplete and the game was eventually recalled.

But that still didn’t shake the fact that Apple believed something nefarious had happened.

“Of course I have [notice it]. He tripped me,” Apple said via NESN.com. “I thought it was a dirty game. He’s done it before, I’ve seen it.”

A possible suspension, which is even on the table, should be kept in mind when the league decides. Shockingly, the Patriots still hold the cards to their own playoff destiny in their Week 17 showdown with the Miami Dolphins.

So the mere possibility of not having Jones in the middle is a big deal.
