Which pen to choose? Apple assures that the answer is entirely determined by your iPad: you need to use the first-gen Pencil on older models with Lightning connectors, you need to use the second-gen Pencil on new models with USB-C connectors, it is and it’s not like that otherwise… except for the 10th generation iPad. Apple doesn’t say everything, and nothing says you absolutely have to use a Pencil.

The Pencil 2 is sensitive to pressure (to vary line thickness) and tilt (to shading), but also to touch. You can double-tap the flat part of the pen to switch between the active tool and the eraser, switch between two tools, open the active tool’s settings, or view the color palette.
