Kim Kardashian details the challenges of co-parenting with Kanye West

CNN —

Kim Kardashian is speaking out for the first time since her divorce from Kanye West was finalized last month.

In a pre-recorded interview with Angie Martinez on her IRL podcast released Monday, Kardashian described how she’s doing her best to raise her four young children with West, who changed his name to Ye.

“Co-parenting is tough,” Kardashian said. “It’s bloody hard.”

She got emotional while discussing her late father, Robert Kardashian, who died in 2003.

“I had the best dad and I had the best memories and the greatest experiences and that’s all I want for my kids,” Kardashian said tearfully. “I would wish that for her.”

Though she didn’t specifically address Yes’s recent anti-Semitic comments and controversy, Kardashian Martinez said she protects her children from media coverage as much as possible. She said she is confident her children are unaware of West’s recent behavior because she is restricting their access to television and social media and speaking to their teachers.

“If they don’t know what’s being said or what’s happening in the world, why should I bring them this energy? These are really heavy adults that they can’t handle,” Kardashian said.

She added she protects Ye in the “eyes of my children, for my children.”

“One day my kids will thank me for sitting here and not hitting their dad when I could,” she said. “They will thank me and I will privately answer anything they want to know. It’s no longer my place to step in.”

Kardashian was referring to a statement she made in October condemning hate speech.

“I stand with the Jewish community and call for an immediate end to the horrific violence and hateful rhetoric directed at them,” Kardashian said at the time.

Ye publicly apologized to Kardashian for “any stress” he caused her in an interview with Good Morning America in September.

“This is my children’s mother and I apologize for any stress I have caused, even in my frustration because God is calling me to be stronger,” Ye said at the time.
