The poll, conducted between April 18 and 20, polled about a thousand people and showed that the former Brazilian president is asserting his position at the forefront of the presidential race against his potential opponents.

Likewise, the company said the valid vote statistic for Lula hits 49.9 percent and estimates he could win in the first round of voting.

At the same time, the study reported that Brazil’s current president, Jair Bolsonaro, has 31 percent of the vote, up one point from the institute’s last poll.

On the other hand, the results of the poll show that former Minister Ciro Gomes has 8 percent of the vote, while former Sao Paulo Governor João Doria has 3 percent; and Senator Simone Tebet announced 2 percent.

In the event of a second round, Lula would also beat Bolsonaro, receiving 54 percent support, compared to 34 percent for the current head of state.

Ipespe said the poll was conducted by telephone, had an error rate of plus or minus 3.2 percent, and was registered with the Superior Electoral Court.
