Star rising in Kremlin, Russia’s Medvedev predicts war in West – Portal

  • The former president transforms into an aggressive war hero
  • The “predictions” for the new year draw a reaction from Musk on Twitter
  • New appointment, China trip show Medvedev’s value for the Kremlin

DEC 27 (Portal) – Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, an arch aide to Vladimir Putin who got a new job this week, predicted a war between Germany and France next year and a civil war in the United States to do so would result in Elon Musk becoming President.

Medvedev, deputy chairman of Putin’s advisory Security Council, served as president for four years when Putin held the post of prime minister. He appears to have seen his fortunes soar in the Kremlin, which said Monday he will now serve as Putin’s deputy on a body overseeing the military industry.

In his list of predictions for 2023, which he posted on his personal Telegram and Twitter accounts, he also foresaw Britain’s re-entry into the EU, which would in turn collapse.

Musk, the Tesla CEO who now owns Twitter, responded to the suggestion that he would emerge as US President by tweeting back “Epic Thread!!” although he also criticized some of Medvedev’s predictions. Medvedev has in the past praised Musk for proposing Ukraine to cede territory to Russia in a peace deal.

Since Russia’s February 24 invasion of Ukraine, Medvedev has reinvented himself as an archhawk, framing the conflict in apocalyptic, religious terms and calling Ukrainians “cockroaches” in language Kyiv describes as openly genocidal. Last week he paid a rare overseas visit to China and held foreign policy talks with President Xi Jinping.

Political scientist Vladimir Pastukhov said Medvedev’s newly outspoken public persona seems to have resonated with his boss.

“Medvedev’s Telegram posts have found at least one reader and indeed one admirer: Putin,” Pastukhov, a political science professor at London’s University College London, wrote in his own Telegram.
