An American mom has surprised her followers by sharing her age in a TikTok video about how to “successfully grow older”.

Kelly Lavallie, who has 250,000 followers on the social media app, shared a video about aging gracefully by listening to what her teenage kids are saying it’s “cool” to wear, and what misses the mark.

But many fans of the video’s message were surprised to learn that blonde Kelly, who curls herself with tongs in the video, is 51.

“I thought you were 30,” one commenter wrote, while another added, “YOU ARE 51?!”

“My #1 tip for successful aging… I mean, I’m kind of right, I’m 51, but so far I’d say… it’s not botox,” she explained at the beginning of the footage.

“Of course botox is fabulous but one thing, don’t get stuck in a fashion era, don’t get stuck with a haircut that looked good on you 30 years ago.”

Instead, the successful mom recommends growing and learning to adapt your fashion and style over the years so you retain a sense of youth.

“We’ve all seen the old broads, a hundred years old, rocking some current fashions, that’s who we want to be,” she said.

“Trust your kids when they say, ‘Mom, that outfit is awesome.'”

While she acknowledges that kids can be harsh about conveying information, Kelly would rather be told she looked fabulous if she didn’t.

“I know they’re mean, but usually they’re right, and I think that’s true on the inside too. Don’t get stuck in the way you see yourself or what you think you can do,” she said.

“The other is … don’t give up, don’t choose to be an old fucker and that’s not a number, you can be that when you’re 40.”

‘Love that! “Successful aging” rather than “anti-aging,” said one commenter.

“Me, a 16-year-old, watching and taking notes,” said another.

A third added: “Yes! My mom always says people get stuck in whatever decade they feel most comfortable in.”
