Aqara is deferring its Matter update for a smoother delivery

Most brands designing connected objects have announced their intention to release Matter compatible products and sometimes update their devices already on the market as well. Aqara followed suit in early November, shortly after the launch of the new standard.

Customers therefore expected to be offered an update, but given the lack of news this last week of the year, one could imagine that Aqara might have been overly optimistic about the deadline. When asked by the HomeKit Authority website, the manufacturer confirmed that it would finally have to wait until January before the long-awaited update arrives.

According to the Chinese brand, this small additional delay for the transition to Matter is necessary to ensure a better user experience. We imagine the task is indeed challenging, as there are about forty products to be made compatible first, and then dozens more.

In addition to the updates, Aqara plans to release a new series in 2023 that will include the Thread communication protocol, which allows objects to act as relays within a mesh network. On the other hand, a new version of its application offers the possibility to support Matter devices from other manufacturers.
