In Lebanon they insist on democratically electing a president

After receiving the information minister of the transitional government, Ziad Makari, the religious leader rejected foreign dictates and called for the definition of a consensus candidate capable of uniting all Lebanese.

In this vein, Al-Rahi emphasized the appointment of a president to restore balance in government in the face of the nation’s worst economic and financial crisis in modern times.

For his part, the information chief acknowledged that the country’s situation is delicate and it is believed that without the appointment of the new head of state it cannot proceed.

On this subject, Makari stressed the urgency of the election of the President of the Republic in order to avoid a deterioration in the living conditions of the Lebanese given the devaluation of the national currency and the decline in purchasing power.

In this context, a delegation from the Shiite Amal movement confirmed the understanding between Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Patriarch Al-Rahi on the mechanism for appointing the country’s president.

Lebanon is trying to appoint the republic’s head of state for the next six years after the end of Michel Aoun’s mandate on October 31.

After 10 sessions in the legislature, no candidate from the Maronite Christian community has the support of a majority of 65 votes as there is no consensus and some forces reject political dialogue.
