More than 16,000 people displaced by violence have been registered in Sudan

The UN Humanitarian Affairs Office in Sudan released a statement saying these people were taking refuge in camps for displaced people in Dereig, in the town of Nyala, and in Damma, in the Mershing demarcation.

For its part, the civic organization Central Committee of Physicians reported that nine civilians died, six from gunshot wounds, while another 18 were injured in armed clashes between communities in South Darfur over the past seven days.

On the other hand, the Darfur regional government claims that the conflicts in the region are driven by security concerns and local development problems, caused in large part by a lack of support from central authorities.

In this North African country, which suffered a coup on October 25, 2021, then-President Omar Hassan al-Bashir resigned in April 2019 under pressure from uniformed officials and amid massive popular protests.
