3.5 tons of cocaine: major drug finds in the port of Hamburg

Hamburg customs seized more than three and a half tons of cocaine in the port. “Investigations into the people behind the customs investigation are in full swing,” the deputy head of Hamburg’s customs investigation office, Matthias Virmond, said on Thursday.

Already on November 29 of this year, the police seized a good two tons of cocaine among canned tuna in a container from Ecuador. A few days later, on December 1, they found more than one and a half tons of cocaine in two containers from Brazil loaded with bags of metallic granules.

“The seizures of these two large quantities provide further evidence of the continued high pressure of cocaine supplies to Europe,” Virmond said. The drugs are valued at at least €100 million.
