Bolivian governor accepts his right to remain silent in the case of the coup

The Bolivian Attorney General’s Office reported that Santa Cruz Department Governor Luis Fernando Camacho has accepted his right to remain silent until the preliminary hearing.

“I will accept the right to remain silent,” Fernando Camacho said in the statement broadcast by DTV, in which he also highlights and defends his actions in the 2019 crisis.

According to Telesur, prosecutors have not provided the date and time of the hearing where Camacho will determine whether he can defend himself at liberty or out of jail.

Prosecutor Jorge Nina announced that he would request the preventive detention of the governor of Santa Cruz, who is the main accused by the Bolivian judiciary of the violence and deaths during the 2019 coup.

Luis Fernando Camacho is being held in police facilities in the city of La Paz after being arrested in Santa Cruz and later flown to the country’s capital.
