An accident of epic proportions took place near the city of Zhengzhou: more than 200 cars were stuck on a bridge. One person died doing this.
It happened on Wednesday morning at Zhengxin Huanghe Bridge near Zhengzhou city. According to the meteorological service, visibility was sometimes less than 200 meters – which is probably why more than 200 cars collided with each other during a massive mass accident . Some cars were literally lifted over other cars by the cars following, some drivers could no longer open their doors and were locked in their cars.
“It is scary”
A total of eleven fire engines and 66 rescue workers rushed to the crash site. One person died in the mass crash, several injured had to be taken to hospitals. A video on social media shows how helpless drivers drive over trapped vehicles and talk on their cell phones. “That’s scary,” you hear someone say. “So many people here. I don’t think we can leave the bridge.”
The Zhengxin-Huanghe Bridge connects the megacities of Zhengzhou and Xinxiang in East China’s Henan Province. According to their own statements, the police had already banned driving on the bridge in vain.
