Thanks to Milton Waddams, his iconic office space figure, Stephen Root definitely has a box of staplers to use to sign any film and TV project.
The multifaceted actor, who is currently a cast member on the HBO series Barry, recently attended The Rich Eisen Show, where he was asked about his time on the 1999 cult classic Mike Judge, in which he starred in all of the show stole.
“Well, at this point in my career, there’s not a set I don’t go to that doesn’t have a box of staplers to sign for the crew,” Root told Eisen, adding he has countless signed staplers for fans . “It doesn’t matter what I’ve done in my career; Whenever someone stops me on the street, it’s Office Space.”
In the judge’s comedy about the monotonous lives of some cronies working for a software company, Root plays fan-favorite Milton, a mild-mannered, bumbling man who is mostly trampled on by coworkers and bosses. Milton’s only bright spot in his job (and maybe even in his life) is his red swingline stapler, which is stolen from him by boss Bill Lumbergh (Gary Cole).
Root explained that four staplers were used in the film, two of which were destroyed. Judge and Root have the other two display devices. “I have one, on a butter dish, on my TV,” Root noted.
