The federal district government said this Thursday, the 29th, that for security reasons Access to Praça dos Três Poderes will be limited to 30,000 people on Sunday, 1st day of the inauguration of Presidentelect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT). Aside from that, Access restriction to the site is 12:30pm.

“There will be a strict traffic control on the day of the inauguration,” said Federal District Security Secretary Júlio Danilo. He also said that the DF government will be alert to all movements in the city and that security teams are committed to keeping everyone safe.

Danilo said more than 50 meetings have already been held to address “various securityrelated fronts”. According to the secretary, more than 46 delegations from other countries will be present and that the festival, which is set to take place in the Esplanada dos Ministérios, has an estimated audience of 300,000 people factors that also deserve attention. “The security of the ownership structure is complex and requires the coordination of everyone,” he noted.

Federal District Civil House Secretary Gustavo Rocha said the DF government was working with Lula’s transition team to ensure safety on the day. “We assume that everything will go well and we are prepared for all possible events,” he said.

Acting regional federal police superintendent for the federal district, Marlon Cajado, said that at the inauguration, federal police would be “more focused on protecting agencies” and that the facility had employed about a thousand police officers under the program.

DF Civil Police Delegate General Robson Cândido added that the company would have 300 more police officers to help with security, and local militia police commander Fábio Augusto also indicated that all staff would be hired the day. The representative of the Federal Road Police said that the troop, based on the last possession, had been increased from 20 to 30 teams. The fire brigade also emphasized that they were prepared for all events.
