Arby’s worker squirts hot grease on drive-thru customer: police

Hueytown, Alabama, police say an employee at an Arby’s restaurant was arrested after allegedly throwing hot grease at a customer at the drive-thru.

At 3:15 p.m. Saturday, officers were responding to a report of an altercation at the restaurant, according to a statement from the Hueytown Police Department posted to its Facebook page.

“Upon arrival, officers found that an employee had doused hot grease on a customer at the drive-thru,” the department wrote.

First responders gave medical attention to the victim, who was then taken to a hospital “for further treatment of his burns.” Police said there were no other reported injuries during the incident.

“The employee was arrested at the scene and the case is being investigated further,” police said.

In an email to Newsweek, a spokesman for Arby said on Sunday that the company “is aware of the incident in Hueytown, Alabama, and the team member’s actions do not reflect Arby’s brand values.” The team member was terminated immediately and we are fully cooperating with local authorities.”

Details of the incident are still scarce. Newsweek has contacted the Hueytown Police Department for comment.

In October, a restaurant manager at a Wendy’s in Tennessee was arrested after he allegedly doused hot oil on a customer who had complained about cold food. The victim suffered severe burns on his left side and arm.

In another incident this weekend in Georgia, a man was left in critical condition after being shot near a McDonald’s restaurant.

The DeKalb County Police Department told Newsweek Saturday that when officers arrived at the scene, they found a man in his 40s in the parking lot with an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Fox 5 Atlanta reported that police said the shooting happened after an argument inside the restaurant was moved outside.

In March, another McDonald’s customer in Georgia was arrested after allegedly assaulting a clerk after getting upset about her food order. At the time, the Dunwoody Police Department said the customer allegedly “attacked a clerk by pulling her hair and jumping over the counter,” where the customer then began “throwing objects.”

“The officers responded and took the woman into custody. She was then taken to the DeKalb County Jail, where her dinner will be very different than the quarter-pounder and cheese she ordered,” the department said in a statement at the time.
