“My hope for the next year is that we lead our lives individually and collectively with kindness, empathy and unity in our relationships with one another,” Volker Türk said in a statement.
He called for sharing all disagreements on the Internet with respect for others and making it a more dignified sphere of communication next year.
“I hope we have the freedom to express ourselves with the assurance of protection from hate and misinformation,” he said.
In 2023, “we must ensure, for example, that women’s rights are respected at home and in public, that women and girls enjoy full equality and are not discriminated against,” he stressed.
Referring to the environment, he added: “While protecting the rights of present and future generations, let us treat our planet with the kindness and humility it deserves.”
