Repubblica false photo Pope Ratzinger with the from Anthony Hopkins. It seems unbelievable, but the article in one of the most important Italian newspapers, which describes the life of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, who died today at the age of 95. contains a photo of a different person, specifically the Oscar-winning American actor who played him in the Netflix film The Two Popes.
Republic false photo Pope Ratzinger, there is his interpreter Anthony Hopkins
Anthony Hopkins played Pope Ratzinger in the film The Two Popes when, in the dialogue the writers devised, Jorge Maria Bergoglio (played by Jonathan Pryce) goes to Rome to meet the Pope, who is about to step down from the throne of Peter. Repubblica has therefore posted the wrong photo of the actor and not the Pope, an amusing mistake for readers but a rather serious one given the importance of today’s event.
Bug fixed after hours
More than three hours after the publication of the article summarizing the creation and life of Pope Ratzinger, the photo of Anthony Hopkins still stood out on the cover in one of the scenes from the famous film, although it was eventually removed, the mistake has nevertheless gone viral and unleashed the merriment of people on the net. We’re sure even the actor, who turns 85 today, would have laughed at that slip-up. We’ll see if there will be a memorial to Anthony Hopkins in the next few hours along with the many political leaders.
