The second in two days at close range in the Sea of Japan
North Korea today launched a short-range ballistic missile into the East Sea, also known as the Sea of Japan. This was announced by the South Korean military. It was the second consecutive test in two days, and the missile was fired from the Yongseong area of the capital Pyongyang, the Seoul General Staff added.
The rocket was launched from the Yongseong area of the capital Pyongyang and landed in the East Sea, also known as the Sea of Japan, Yonhap said, citing the general staff. Military tensions on the Korean peninsula escalated sharply in 2022 as the North conducted anti-sanctions weapons tests nearly every month, including the launch of its most advanced ICBM ever. The North launched three short-range ballistic missiles yesterday, the Seoul-based military said, a day after South Korea successfully tested a solid-fuel launch vehicle. The North Korean launch followed an incursion by five North Korean drones into southern airspace earlier in the week. North Korea’s drone strike on Monday was the first such incident in five years and prompted an apology from Seoul’s defense minister after the military failed to shoot down a single drone in a five-hour operation despite using jets.
