Venice and Mestre celebrate New Year’s Eve 2023, this time completely free from the conditioning of the health emergency. The city offers a double appointment to celebrate the arrival of the New Year: in the lagoon with fireworks, on the mainland with music in the square. Note that late evening and nighttime anti-alcohol ordinances are in effect.
At midnight, the pool of San Marco lights up with the fires of Parente Fireworks, a show ready to amaze thousands of spectators, including many tourists: twenty minutes of fireworks with colors, choreographies and drawings reflected in an emotional mix in the water. The best view to enjoy the show is near the Arsenale and along the banks of Schiavoni, Ca’ di Dio, San Biagio, Sette Martiri. The show can also be seen from St. Mark’s Square and the Royal Gardens area, albeit with “restricted views”. Access is free and without reservation, but capacity in the different areas is limited (with entrance through gates) to ensure security.
On the other hand, the celebrations in Mestre will be livened up by the music of Virgin Radio: Dj Ringo will host the Rockin’ New Year event on the stage in Piazza Ferretto from 10pm, based on his historic program Revolver. Other guests with him: Timothy Rock Cavicchini, former protagonist of the program The Voice, which offers a live “light” that engages the audience in talent style; Alteria – singer but also spearhead of Virgin Radio, who successfully hosts Morning Glory and has just completed a world tour with Deep Purple’s Ian Paice – and Alessandro Toky, another historic Virgin DJ, and producer and engineer of the sound.
However, for those who want to party at the theater, the Toniolo offers two dates: Saturday December 31 (9:30 p.m.) and Sunday January 1 (4:30 p.m.) there will be performances of “Black Blues Brothers”, an acrobatic tribute to the legendary film The Blues Brothers were staged by five Kenyan acrobats whose world tour has exceeded 750 dates and more than 300,000 spectators.
After the night of celebrations, January 1st, 2023 will open with the traditional Fenice concert conducted by Maestro Daniel Harding, broadcast live as usual on Rai 1. Divided into an exclusively orchestral first and a second dedicated to melodrama, the concert will feature a series of arias, duets and choral passages, interpreted by top-class soloists and the Teatro La Fenice Choir. The musical performance will end with the “Va ‘pensiero” and “Libiam ne’ felici calici”.
