Previously, other Russian attacks had left at least one dead and around 30 wounded, which hasn’t stopped President Volodymyr Zelenskyy from promising his country will fight to “victory.”
Several Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, were attacked by Russian strikes this Saturday, followed by a fresh series of explosions in the capital shortly after the year 2023 transition.
Russian rockets fell on two districts of Kyiv around 30 minutes past midnight, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said by telegram, adding that no new casualties were immediately identified. He said the air defense system was “working” to protect the city from Russian attacks.
“Explosion heard in the capital. Air defense is (ready),” Vitali Klitschko said on Telegram after the explosion was heard around 12:35 a.m.
“Victory” vs. “Moral Justice”
Previously, other Russian attacks had left at least one dead and around 30 wounded, which hasn’t stopped President Zelenskyy from promising his country will fight to “victory.”
“We are fighting and we will continue to fight. For this word: victory,” he said in his speech at the turn of the year.
For his part, Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed in his wishes to have “moral correctness” on his side.
“Ukraine will not forgive”
At least eleven explosions were heard in the Ukrainian capital in the early afternoon as residents prepared to celebrate the New Year.
According to the Kiev government, these bombings caused at least one death and 22 injuries. They tore open the facade of the four-star Alfavito Hotel in the city center and scattered debris on the street. Nearby sidewalks were covered in glass from blown windows, including those in the National Palace of Arts.
“Ukraine will not forgive,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy replied, promising that “those who order such strikes and those who carry them out will not be pardoned.”
The year 2023 will be the year of “victory” in the war against Russia, he announced a little later in his New Year’s greetings.
