American Airlines ground crew killed at Montgomery airport

An American Airlines ground crew member was killed at Montgomery Regional Airport today, the airport said.

“Around 3pm today, an American Airlines ground crew member was involved in a fatality in Piedmont, no further information is available at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased,” the tweet said.

The airport released a statement around 7:45 p.m

“We are saddened by the tragic loss of a team member at AA/Piedmont Airlines,” said Wade A. Davis, Executive Director of MGM.

The airport resumed normal operations at 8:30 p.m. tonight, the airport tweeted.

“The FAA investigation into the tragic accident in Piedmont continues,” the tweet said.

“We are devastated by the accident involving a team member from Piedmont Airlines, a regional airline of American Airlines, at Montgomery Regional Airport (MGM). Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and local team members. We are focused on making sure everyone involved has the support they need during this difficult time,” said an American Airlines spokesman.

Piedmont Airlines is working with the NTSB, FAA and local law enforcement agencies to investigate the incident.

American Airlines has not provided any additional information due to the active investigation.

“Two people briefed on the matter said the employee killed was a baggage handler. The flight was operated by Envoy Air, a wholly owned subsidiary of American Airlines Group,” Portal reported.

“The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed to CNN that the incident took place “where American Airlines Flight 3408, an Embraer E175, was parked,” the WSFA reported.
