FDP leader Christian Lindner, who suffers from Corona, sparked a debate about his health status with his appearance at the Liberal Party Conference via a Washington connection. On Twitter, many people on Saturday wondered if he really is fit or sick. The fact that the 660 or so delegates were sitting together in a hall in Berlin and without masks was also widely criticized. Lindner himself said he had only mild symptoms.

Users ironically comment on Lindner’s condition
“Do you have Corona or another contagious disease? Share it with others! Your FDP,” he said elsewhere. The advice to Lindner was worded no less ironically: “Don’t worry, it’s just a mild cold and all the Long Covid fuss is certainly completely out of breath, otherwise ask your top virologist Buddy Buschmann for advice. Get well soon. . “
The argument was sparked by the fact that Lindner was sweating profusely during his 40-minute speech at the party. A still image of his performance quickly went viral on the internet. The 43-year-old tested positive for the corona virus following a meeting of G7 finance ministers in Washington on Thursday and is now in isolation there.
Lindner also received well wishes on Twitter, for which he was grateful. “But there’s no need to worry – this is what it looks like when you’re in the headlights at 6:00 a.m. without a mask…” he wrote on the short message service. He is looking forward to the next party congress at normal time and on site.
Kubicki criticizes Lauterbach
At the party conference, several top FDP politicians emphasized that it was thanks to the liberals that Germany returned to “normal” after two years of restrictions caused by the corona pandemic. “And I will say: if (Health Minister) Karl Lauterbach had not withdrawn the decision by the 16 Health Ministers that we no longer need to be quarantined if we are infected, Christian Lindner would be with us today and not in Washington,” said the deputy.
