pedrochismo

The Puerta del Sol bells began en masse in 1899. The tradition of grapes began in 1909. And Pedroche’s dress in 2014. A rather understated dress – in my opinion – was followed by a marvel of jewels and tulle. In 2016 Cristina performed disguised as Pinito del Oro, in 2017 she rang the bells as Seetah in La tumba india and from then on the more or less happy fantasies began. The year she said “I feel very empowered,” she couldn’t move (or pee) in a Freixenet version of María, the Metropolis robot. In 2020, she dressed up as a factory go-go dancer in Logan’s Run. In 2021 I don’t know if it was a butterfly or an angel from Evangelion and this year the nonsense culminated in something about nudity for peace.

It’s very flippant to comment on Pedroche’s clothes. It is also tradition that pushed TVE from the altar of the carillon. The creator is stylist and superstar Josie, whom we met from the cult show Supermodelo, the same show on which Cristina Rodríguez snapped at her namesake: “to be gothic, to your house”.

I’m not the only one who misses that there’s a naked man too, even if it comes down to hiding it. “Poor thing, they teased her,” says my mother as I write this. I bet Josie will get back at Pedroche for an insult we don’t know about. The formula is as exhausted as the putative dove that covered his chest. We have to thank him for uniting us all Spaniards in the first hard-hitting critique of the year for so many New Year’s Eves, but it’s time to turn the page. For example, they could dress Pedroche and undress Chicote. Now that would be a surprise.
