Lula Begins Governing By Revoking Various Bolsonaro Decrees

(ANSA) — BRASILIA, JAN 02 — New Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has reversed several decrees by former President Jair Bolsonaro, including the decree that deactivated the Amazon Fund funded by Norway and Germany.

The funds were used to support sustainable development projects and to monitor areas devastated by illegal logging or intensive farming.

Other Bolsonaro measures suppressed by the new government include the decrees authorizing the sale and possession of firearms for hunters, shooters, and collectors (the so-called “cac,” after the Portuguese acronym).

The right-wing leader had made the arms market more flexible, for example by expanding the types of authorized guns and allowing hundreds of thousands of ordinary citizens to obtain CAC cards. According to Bolsonaro, the policy of arming the population would increase security by reducing killings. (HAND).
