During the operation at the Mitterhofersiedlung in Floridsdorf, the police confiscated 20 kilograms of pyrotechnics, including 250 items of category F4, according to the police. According to the Pyrotechnics Act, proof of specialized knowledge is required for the possession and use of category F4 pyrotechnic objects.

This requires a relevant trade license, successful completion of a pyrotechnics course or appropriate expertise, which the authority must be able to credibly demonstrate. In addition to the arrests and reports, there were 221 identity checks. A 19-year-old youth was also arrested in Praterstern, the Afghan had thrown a firecracker at the police. Nobody is hurt.

1,902 missions on New Year’s Eve

At the turn of the year, 4,341 emergency calls were received at the state police control center in Vienna, and police officers completed 1,902 operations. Throughout Vienna, there were 131 reports and 24 mandates from bodies under the Pyrotechnics Act. In total, around 98 kilos of pyrotechnic articles were seized.

Damage to cigarette vending machines and garbage cans caused by pyrotechnic objects was reported in the districts of Josefstadt, Simmering, Favoriten, Meidling, Floridsdorf and Liesing, among others.

The police had already seized several prohibited pyrotechnic objects on New Year’s Eve. Standby unit officials checked trains coming from neighboring countries at the train station on Saturday, in cooperation with the district forces of the Floridsdorf city police command. In this operation, 73 pieces of illegal pyrotechnics of category F3, 106 pieces of category F4 and three pieces of category T1 were seized. They also found two knives and a machete in a 12-year-old boy.

In a square in Vienna-Brigittenau, nine charges and five penal orders were imposed under the Pyrotechnics Act and two driver’s licenses were withdrawn because of drug use. A driver was driving without a license and two license plates were removed.
