“As you spoke, we had great on-screen matchmaking moments with birds around the world. That was a nature experience this morning,” he said.

Edwina, still crying with laughter, then turned to Mark and joked, “The eagles really hit it off.”

The awkward moment came just days after Sunrise viewers blasted new presenter Mylee Hogan for joking that cricketer Glenn McGrath had died during a segment of a twisted TikTok fad.

The cruel madness on the social media platform sees children filming their parents’ horrified reaction when they are mistakenly told a favorite celebrity has died suddenly.

Hogan – granddaughter of Australian icon Paul Hogan – happily reported on the viral trend on Wednesday, before deputy presenter Mark Beretta ended the report early.

“That might be the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen,” Mark said. “I dont like this at all. We shouldn’t do this. remove it Pick it up now.’

But when Mark went on to talk to former Australian fast bowler McGrath about the Boxing Day Test, Hogan blurted out, “Glenn McGrath has died!”

The comment, which was heard off-camera but clearly, sparked an angry reaction from Mark and co-host Edwina Bartholomew.

“Not even… that’s not funny,” Edwina said as Hogan laughed. Mark added: “I don’t get it at all. It’s not funny like that. It’s crazy…’

The serious Edwina immediately apologized to viewers, adding: “It’s not funny. Forgiveness.
