DOJ hides hundreds of records of Hunter Biden, James Biden, attorney claims

According to a new report Monday, a Colorado attorney is trying to make the Justice Department try to hide hundreds of “potentially appealing” documents about gifts first son Hunter Biden and his uncle James Biden received from contacts in China, Russia and Ukraine .

Kevin Evans sued the Justice Department in March after he said the agency failed to comply with his Freedom of Information Act request for records of Joe Biden’s son and brother’s overseas business dealings, the Chron reported.

Evans said he is seeking documents “regarding relationships, communications, gifts and/or compensation of any kind” from China, Russia or Ukraine

He said federal government lawyers admitted in court to having at least 400 pages of “potentially appealing” documents, but now said they could “neither confirm nor deny” whether the records existed.

“They ended up producing about 60 pages of documents, but it’s all letters from senators and congressmen asking about Hunter and letters back from the DOJ,” Evans told the Chron.

“Then towards the end of last year they said, ‘Well, we have these 400 pages of potentially relevant documents, we need to review them,'” Evans said, the lawyers told him, an allegation he says the government was repeating in court.

After a few months, Evans said the government had come back with a “neither confirm nor deny” response.

Evans said he initially filed a FOIA request in November 2020 after reading about Hunter Biden’s overseas operations in China and Ukraine, ties The Post widely disclosed in October.

The Post’s disclosure of the first son’s business dealings was based on emails and messages found on a laptop that Hunter Biden abandoned at a computer repair shop in Wilmington, Del., in April 2019

Evans said he believes the government will do everything it can to keep the information private.

“I’m quite confident that they will seek summary judgment on the privacy exceptions under FOIA to avoid having to produce these documents,” he told the publication.

“But I don’t think they should do it in this case, especially if they have disclosed and put on record that potentially responsive documents exist.”

Evans said the next status hearing in the case is scheduled for Jan. 9.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said James Biden is the focus of investigators examining Hunter Biden’s business deals.

Grassley and Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) released a report on the Bidens’ business activities in September 2020.

In April, the two senators released new documents that delve deeper into the Biden family’s business dealings.

The documents revealed that Hunter Biden and Jim Biden received monthly payments of $100,000 and $65,000, respectively, under an August 2017 consulting agreement between the first son and Gongwen Dong, a top official at CEFC China Energy.

The documents also show that Jim Biden’s company, The Lion Hall Group, received payments directly from Hudson West III, a company then jointly owned by Hunter Biden’s law firm, Owasco, and Coldharbour Capital LLC, which Johnson’s report and Grassley related to Dong from September 2020.

“We have people by the name of Biden who deal with Chinese businessmen who have a relationship with the Communist Party,” Grassley said at the time. “I think it’s very worrying.”
