Netflix series 1899, accused of plagiarism by a Brazilian cartoonist, will not be renewed for a second season. The announcement was made on social media this Monday (01/02) by the creator of the production, Swiss screenwriter Baran Bo Odar.
“It is with a heavy heart that we must say that 1899 will not be renewed. We’d love to wrap up this incredible journey with a 2nd and 3rd season like we did with Dark. But sometimes things don’t go the way you planned. That’s life,” began the statement, which is also signed by Jantje Friese, cocreator.

“We know this will disappoint millions of fans out there. But we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being a part of this wonderful adventure. We love you. Don’t forget,” the text concludes.
Recall that shortly after its streaming debut, 1899 was accused of plagiarism by Brazilian cartoonist Mary Cagnin. According to the artist, there are some similarities between the production and her HQ Black Silence. The show’s staff denied the allegations.
