The cult actress: «Alessandro created a great chaos in places that were often closed and found himself in the middle of a street. Edwig Fenech? You were never friends (but not even enemies)”
“I grew up in a family where no one ever made any distinctions. Not for skin color, not for religion, let alone gender. My sister has always been bisexual and has never been remotely a problem for us. Barbara Bouchet will be the godmother of the 37th edition of the Lovers Film Festival, directed by Vladimir Luxuria, which opens on Tuesday and will take place at the Cinema Massimo until May 1st.
On Tuesday evening, at the inauguration, Bouchet will have a 360° dialogue with director Luxuria, speaking to the group about a career spanning over 60 years that has made her loved and appreciated by everyone. Quentin Tarantino and Italian women included.
How did the sponsorship of your lovers begin?
«One day I was in the main train station in Milan and happened to meet Vladimir. We talked, then we said goodbye. She went back and asked for my phone number because she said she had an idea. And here we are”.
What will be your contribution to the festival?
“I bring my sharing, my absolute yes to civil rights for all. I advocate that the LGBTQ+ community should have the same rights as everyone else».
When she arrived, was Italy racist?
«In the beginning no. I came from California, where we lived with other communities that varied in color, religion, and sexual tastes. No one found it odd in any way. I certainly have more gay friends than straight friends, they are exquisite people with whom I have a great affinity. I don’t know where I would be without her.”
Were the women dying of jealousy for you in the days of your sexy movies?
“Italian women have always shown me respect and affection. I am very grateful to them. To this day they still give me the compliments that I value ten times more from a woman. My best friends are all women: Iva Zanicchi, Gloria Guida, Marisa Laurito. Above all Corinne Clery».
When she was little, she was also a refugee. What do you remember?
“I have always been an immigrant. My family had to leave Czechoslovakia because of the Russian invasion. They told my grandfather to take his hat and go. They were expelled to a refugee camp in Germany. Fortunately, children, when there are no horrors of war, they always find a way to adapt. Then we went to America with my parents, we all collected cotton in the fields. I’ve always managed. When I see what is happening in Ukraine, where the lives of fleeing people are stuffed into their shopping carts, I am overcome with sorrow. Please only eat pesto ».
what do you want today
“I like my job so much. In the morning when I wake up and have to go to a set, I’m happy. I accept everything, even great-grandmother roles. I’m not tormented by my past, by ‘I was considered a beautiful woman, a symbol of sex…’. It’s enough for me to keep working and staying healthy.”
Dispute about missing roles for mature women?
“True, there aren’t any, not even in the United States. The only place they are is France. But I’m not complaining, I’m happy with the supporting roles.”
Was the rivalry between you and Edwige Fenech real?
“We were never friends, but we weren’t enemies either. We both did so many films that we were busy on some set every day. The producers always wanted one thing or the other».
His son Alessandro Borghese is in a media scramble to learn his claims of working in the kitchen for free. What do you think?
“I think it was misrepresented a bit. My two children were raised to fend for themselves with no financial help from me. Alessandro made a big mess, pacing in and out of kitchens that were often closed, and finding himself in the middle of a street. he works hard I also had my lesson, I kept my eyes open to understand and learn».
do you like turin
“Very, very much. Here is the best theater audience in Italy. At the Cinema Museum I will give away all my awards that I have received in my career and many other things ».
Tarantino?
“Thanks to him, all my films experienced a second youth. They would have been forgotten. I couldn’t believe it when he said I was his favorite actress. When I think that I’ve never seen any of his films, I don’t like splashes ».
Do you see other loves in your future?
“I have a long marriage. I’m someone who feels comfortable, even when I’m alone. When a new love arrives, I’ll wait for it here. Otherwise it’s okay ».
Do you have a favourite movie?
“Impossible to say with 120 films behind it. Some have been better promoted and therefore have a special place for the public, such as Spaghetti at Midnight, Milan Caliber 9, Casino Royale… ».
