Fan club president Celine Dion laughs at Rolling Stone Awards

Following the controversy over Celine Dion’s absence from Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 200 Greatest Female Singers of All Time, Line Basbous, president of the Charlemagne star’s fan club, Red Heads, said she was amused by the situation.

“I’m very amused, but it doesn’t trigger much in me in terms of emotions. We love each other when Celine is talked about,” she said during a phone interview.

For Line Basbous, this controversy comes at a good time. The planetary upheaval caused by this ranking seems like a large dose of love for a Céline who is going through difficult times with her health.

“We are very proud of the reactions, the popular uprising and the backlash that this award generates. It’s a big dose of love,” she said in a phone interview.

Line Basbous doesn’t scream scandal. However, she does not understand this absence and also underlines the absence of Madonna from this list and the presence of singers who may not have their place in this ranking.

“Madonna and Celine Dion can’t be missing. The only possible explanation I can think of is that it was just an accident. This makes that ranking something not very credible and makes Rolling Stone lose legitimacy, which is no longer a reference at all,” she said.

She adds that the American magazine has a slightly snobbish side.

“Céline has been snubbed by right-thinking people and music intellectuals throughout her career. It’s been like this for a good ten years,” she said, citing Celine’s popularity, which is immense in the United States, based in Las Vegas and elsewhere in the world.

With a smile in his voice, Line Basbous finds the explanation in a price list that a trainee would have written.

“What I’ve been remembering since yesterday is this huge outpouring of planetary love for Celine. It checkmates the Rolling Stone charts,” she said.

Thirty-six hours after the publication of this list, the trade magazine has not issued any comment or explanation regarding Céline’s absence from its list published on January 1st.

This list was compiled by the Rolling Stones team and associates based on originality, influence, catalog depth and breadth of singers’ musical heritage. It is stated that it is not aimed at the quality of voices and vocal ability.
