Director Dennis Carvalho, suffering from blood poisoning, remains hospitalized in serious condition

75yearold actor Dennis Carvalho remains in serious condition at the Copa Star Hospital in Copacabana, in Rio de Janeiro’s South Zone. Directing highly successful soap operas such as Vale Tudo and Selva de Pedra, he is treating toxemia but is stable and responds well to neurological stimuli. No release date yet.

“The condition is still very serious, but that it is stable is good news. He is strong and fights. We receive countless messages of love, strength and affection for him. I’m sure he’s getting all of that,” said his exwife and girlfriend, actress Deborah Evelyn, in Patrícia Kogut’s column in O Globo newspaper.

The actor, director and voice actor since December 26. Also known as sepsis, the condition it treats is an inflammatory response in the body after infection that can lead to organ failure.

Dennis started work early. He did his first test at the age of 11 for TV Paulista to star in the soap opera Oliver Twist. In 1964 he joined TV Tupi and took part in numerous teleteatros, but he enjoyed a successful career with TV Globo. The actor left the station in the middle of this year, reported columnist Patricia Kogut. His contract ended after 47 years of work.

In his resume he has played 28 soap operas as an actor and nine characters in the films. Dennis has also directed 36 soap operas throughout his career, most of them written by author Gilberto Braga, his amazing television partner. As a voice actor, he provides the voice of Roger “Race” Bannon on “Jonny Quest”, Corporal Rusty on “Rin Tin Tin”, Captain Kirk on “Star Trek” and Jerry on “The Time Tunnel”.
