The composer and singer Rita de Cássia, who became famous as the author of Forró classics such as “Meu Vaqueiro, Meu Peão” and “Saga de Um Vaqueiro”, died in Fortaleza on Tuesday evening (3). She was hospitalized in an intensive care unit (ICU) at a private hospital. The artist struggled with a diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis.

Rita de Cássia became known nationally for her lyrics, driven by the singers of the band Mastruz com Leite. Forrozeira is from Alto Santo, Ceará.

Who is Rita de Cassia?

Rita de Cássia is considered “the greatest forró composer in Brazil” because she has more than 500 compositions without partnerships, many of which have been recorded by several successful artists and bands across Brazil. His first recorded composition was “Brilho da Lua” by singer Eliane in 1992, which became an absolute hit and was the most played song in Fortaleza. Soon after, “Sonho Real” was recorded by Banda Mastruz com Leite, which was already appearing in Ceará and other states with great success.

In 1993, Mastruz com Leite recorded “Meu Vaqueiro, Meu Peão”, which was an explosion of success throughout Brazil and became the main anthem of our modern forró. And from there begins the fame of Rita de Cássia as a composer, who has already obtained the diploma “Outstanding Best Composer of Ceará 1993”. Forró began to conquer the entire Northeast with the new romantic language of poetry. The direct way of talking about love started to work and Rita de Cássia continued to compose beautiful songs with all her talent and charisma, receiving many compliments every day from different announcers, bands, critics and especially from the young people who join us came like them from forró with this great revolution.

In 1994 she won the Outstanding in the Vale do Jaguaribe Region award for best composer. He was also ranked 8th among the best composers in the country. So in 1995 I received congratulations from Ecad (Central Office of Collection and Distribution) for the first execution in Brazil together with Somzoom Studio. In the same year the first CD entitled “Rita de Cássia, Redondo e Banda Som do Norte” was recorded. In 2000, her merits were also recognized at the event “Xx O Século das Mulheres” promoted by the newspaper Folha do Comércio.
