The main customs officers at the border between Germany and Switzerland checked a 7-seater vehicle with 23 people on Tuesday 3 January. The driver will “receive a fine” for carrying so many passengers “without ensuring safety”.
Surprise at the customs post between Germany and Switzerland: A 7-seater minivan with 23 people, including 14 children on board, was checked, police said on Tuesday, April 3.
The Seat Alhambra vehicle, which was transporting members of an “extended family” traveling from Poland to the Swiss capital Bern, was arrested on Monday morning, a statement by German authorities said. “Twenty-three people got out of the car,” police said.
“No security guarantee”
The passengers, including nine adults and 14 children, were checked at the Weil am Rhein border crossing in south-west Germany. The driver of the vehicle, who lives in Switzerland, could now “expect a fine” for carrying so many passengers “without safety guarantees”, added the German police.
After the paperwork was done, the tribe was allowed into Switzerland, “but not all into the Seat Alhambra,” police said.
