According to a statement from the Elysee, Macron reiterated France’s unwavering support for Ukraine to restore its full sovereignty and territorial integrity and reiterated his strong condemnation of the Russian bombing of Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure.
The discussion during the phone call between the two presidents focused on the terms of military aid to Ukraine: Zelenskyy thanked France for its effective and long-term support, both by supplying equipment, including defense aircraft, and by training Ukrainian armed forces and by setting up a special fund of 200 million euros to allow Ukraine to procure supplies.
The French President has informed his counterpart of the decision to increase this aid in response to the needs expressed by Kyiv by supplying French-made light main battle tanks for the first time.
There was also talk of implementing the commitments of the Solidarity with the People of Ukraine conference held in Paris on December 13 to help Ukraine get through the winter. In this context, France will deliver 63 high-power power generators and five million LED light bulbs in the next few days. In conclusion, Macron reiterated his full support for Zelenskyi’s proposal for a ten-point peace plan and said he was ready to support Ukraine’s efforts on that basis.

Zelenskyy said he had a “long and detailed” conversation with the head of the Elysee about the situation and thanked him for the French decision to supply “light tanks and Bastion APCs” to Kyiv. With Macron, he added: “We have agreed on further cooperation to significantly strengthen Ukraine’s air defense and other defense capabilities. We also agreed to work on the implementation of the peace formula.”
