A surgeon has been accused of beating his dentist ex-girlfriend in more than a dozen brutal assaults that resulted in a miscarriage, broken bones and a concussion.
dr Joseph Finley, 53, an ear, nose and throat surgeon affiliated with Northwell Health in New York City, is said to have launched a series of violent attacks on his now ex-girlfriend, Negar Dolatabadi, over a two-year period.
Finley drank to excess — at one point averaging 4 ounces of bourbon a day — before violently assaulting Ms. Dolatabadi, 40, on seven separate occasions, according to civil court documents filed Friday in the New York County Supreme Court.
Ms Dolatabadi, originally from Iran, was allegedly beaten, thrown to the ground and beaten so severely over the two years that she suffered serious injuries, including a broken toe, broken ribs and a concussion.
During these violent attacks, Finley shouted “whore” at Ms. Dolatabadi, according to court documents viewed by . Finley, who is also facing criminal charges including strangulation and assault, has “vehemently” denied the allegations.

A month after she found out Ms Dolatabadi was pregnant with her first child, Finley allegedly attacked her at her home, kicking her in the stomach and throwing her across the room.
Shortly after that attack, Ms. Dolatabadi learned that she had miscarried and lost the baby, according to Manhattan prosecutors.
“He ruined my life and he shouldn’t get away with it,” Ms. Dolatabadi told the New York Post. “I have a lifelong injury. I’m in pain every night. There isn’t a single second that I’m not aware of the pain in my foot.’
Finley was arrested on Sept. 25, 2022 and charged with second-degree strangulation, six third-degree assaults and two counts of third-degree criminal mischief, according to a Manhattan Criminal Court complaint.
He will appear in court on February 8 in that case.
The couple started dating in March 2018 and they moved in together in August of the same year.
But within three months of living in New York, Finley violently assaulted Ms Dolatabadi, repeatedly calling her a “whore”, accusing her of cheating on him and threatening to call her employer to “let her know that she’s a whore,” the lawsuit claims.
That initial attack left Ms. Dolatabadi with broken ribs, nerve damage to her left hand and bruises all over her body, court documents show.

Finley promised to quit drinking – and that worked until July 2020. Finley began drinking to excess during the Covid pandemic lockdown – leading to outbreaks of violence.
On July 5, 2020, Finley launched an attack on Ms. Dolatabadi, threatening, “I’m going to kill you. I have people in high places,” the lawsuit reads. Ms Dolatabadi was reportedly left bleeding and suffering from a concussion on the bathroom floor.
On the same day, Finley hit Ms Dolatabadi sideways on the head and landed a blow directly to her ear – leaving the alleged victim in excruciating pain and nausea.
She stayed on the toilet for two days while throwing up and fluid leaking from her ear, the lawsuit alleges.
After that incident, Finley began drinking more and more alcohol – averaging 1.75 liters of bourbon a day, Ms Dolatabadi alleges in her lawsuit.
In October 2020, Finley slammed a door on Ms Dolatabadi and repeatedly yelled at her that she was a “whore” in an attack that left the dentist with a broken big toe.
In another attack a year later on October 4, 2021, Finley pushed Ms. Dolatabadi so hard that her right foot hit the TV stand, resulting in her suffering a broken toe ring on her right foot.

Just before Ms. Dolatabadi broke her toe, Finley shouted the words ‘I’ll kick you out of the country, I’ll tell the FBI who you really are’ and ‘I’ll make sure you’ll never look the same again’, claims the court document.
A week later, Finley allegedly attempted to strangle Ms Dolatabadi while shouting: “If you’re going to harm my career, I’ll have to kill you. You know that, don’t you?’
On December 17, 2021, Finley also pushed Ms. Dolatabadi to the ground so hard that she re-injured her previously broken big toe.
“Ms. Dolatabadi suffered a significant re-injury to the person previously operated on to correct nutrition, causing severe hematoma, swelling and the inability to walk, as evidenced by Ms. Dolatabadi’s orthopedic surgeon and medical records,” the court filings said.
During this attack, Finley is said to have yelled at Ms. Dolatabadi, who is originally from Iran, “I am sending your terror ass back to Iran” and “I will make sure you never see your mother again” and “I will disfigure you” . !’
Finley often left the home after the assaults, fearing neighbors would call the police after hearing MsDolatabadi’s screams, court documents said.
In February 2022, Ms Dolatabadi found out she was pregnant and told Finley. A month later, Finley reportedly violently attacked his then-girlfriend, kicking her in the stomach and throwing her across the room.
Not long after the attack, Ms. Dolatabadi learned that she had suffered a miscarriage.
Three months later, in April 2022, the couple were traveling in a car when Finley allegedly reached over and punched Ms Dolatabadi in the face, breaking her sunglasses and cutting her face. He reportedly shouted, “You deserve this, what kind of child wants you as a mother?”
On May 19, 2022, following another alleged assault, Ms Dolatabadi left Finley and reported him to police.
In September he was arrested and charged with domestic violence.
Dolatabadi’s attorney, Kenneth Belkin, told the Post the dentist was unable to work for two years because of her foot injury.
“You can not [hospital] Rotation as a dentist when you have broken toes,” Belkin said.
“She’s an immigrant to this country from Iran and worked very hard to become a dentist and it wasn’t easy,” Belkin said. “That was basically taken from her by this man’s action.”
