President Lula’s inauguration caused a stir on social media. Angered by the look chosen by the first lady, Antonia Fontenelle decided to attack the outfit chosen by Janja for the presidential ceremony.
“Look, folks… These are the old guard of Imperatriz Leopoldinense. I don’t know much about fashion, but I don’t think it’s necessary, that’s my opinion, the opinion of a simple woman,” she criticized, noting that the samba school was “apathetic, it stinks and doesn’t smell”.
Outraged by the presenter’s remarks, Imperatriz Leopoldinense decided to submit an application for Antonia’s nonaccreditation at the carnival and invited Lula’s wife to a parade during the celebrations.
“The unfounded attacks by those who do not know the history of the carnival do not only affect our association, but above all our community, fans, components and consequently the entire world of samba. We demand respect for our sixtythree year history in favor of Brazilian folk arts and culture,” they wrote in the publication’s caption.
“Following the attacks on the First Lady of Brazil and on our association, we publicly invite dear Janja to appear as godmother of our gallery of the old guard in the carnival 2023,” emphasized the school in the official invitation.
