Halve the cost of living, return to UK GDP growth, reduce national debt, fix National Health Service (NHS) imbalances by cutting patient waiting lists and curb illegal immigration across the Channel after record flow of landings by 2022. These are The “five pledges” announced by Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in his first speech of the year for 2023 focused on trying to win back support for the Tory community (in freefall in the polls) and against the backdrop of the political initiative to rediscover the current recessionary winds on the island, a global energy crisis exacerbated by the Russo-Ukrainian war, rising utility bills, negative post-Brexit repercussions, wage disputes and strikes.

The British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak it will then work to ensure that all pupils in English schools learn mathematics up to the age of 18.

Sunak has placed education reform at the center of the domestic political agenda. The Prime Minister will outline the reform in his first speech of the year – scheduled for today, January 4 – to set out his priorities for 2023.

According to the British government, approx 8 million adults in England they have them numerical skills of a primary school child and only half of the 16 to 19 year olds study mathematics.

From Sunak’s entourage it is made clear that the mathematics it will not become compulsory at A (Excellence) level, but other assessment avenues will be explored, such as the new core mathematics and technical qualifications.
