Instagram vs Reality: Tourist shares the hilarious split view from her stunning Bali hostel

  • A Bali tourist has revealed the polarizing view from outside her holiday hostel
  • Dutch tourist Luna De Fauw showed the glamorous and real side of the hotspot
  • She took to TikTok to show off the pool before panning to a muddy construction site

A tourist discovered the stark reality of how different Bali can be depending on where you are when she showed off the stunning views from her hostel – before she took in her surroundings.

Dutch traveler Luna De Fauw posted a video of the view from her hostel balcony in Canggu, Bali on TikTok in December.

She started her video by showing off the Insta-worthy, immaculate pool on the hostel grounds, before panning to a muddy patch of land with half-built houses in the distance.

Footage of Ms De Fauw went viral, showing the pale blue tranquility by the pool, with rows of loungers, manicured lawns and palm trees (pictured).

Ms De Fauw’s footage, captioned “Bali Insta vs. Real Life,” showed the pale blue tranquility poolside with lined deck lounges, manicured lawns and palm trees.

It then panned over to the next door where there is a large muddy area with some grass and run down houses next to a large construction site in the background.

Social media users took to Ms De Fauw’s post to slam Bali for being “overrated”, but others tipped it off as Australia’s legendary tourist hotspot.

“I don’t care what anyone says. Bali is a mood. Love it,” one commenter wrote.

“You’ve been watching too many people thinking Bali is glitz and glamor on TikTok,” said another.

Some slammed Ms De Fauw for trying to make her Bali stay cheap, urging her to “pay the price” if she wanted something better.

But others saw the brighter side of it, commenting on the muddy patch of grass next to the hostel.

“We love the alternative beach,” joked one.

It comes after other TikTokkers posted similar footage from the vacation hotspot, showing idyllic mansion beauties right next to muddy swamps during this holiday season.

In November, British tourist Victoria Goulbourne took to TikTok to post the reality of her stay.

Their footage showed a crystal clear pool, swaying palm trees, patio and chairs before panning to a muddy swamp just behind the villa, with the filthy creek running through it.

Social media users suggested that next time she should go in the dry season.

“Probably at the wrong time of year and not in the villa’s best location,” said one commenter.

“The accommodation I stayed at in Bali was right on the beach and had my own plunge pool overlooking the ocean. However, we weren’t trying to be cheap,” said another.
