Big things are coming to the Kroger checkout line. And by that we mean the conveyor belt.
Gone are the days of getting stuck behind a shopper at the self-checkout line with a large order. Kroger recently announced that it would be expanding its self-checkout conveyor belts in stores in greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Dayton, Ohio.
A larger conveyor belt means buyers can pay for themselves, even for large orders. People can stock up on their Kroger favorites and not have to worry about waiting in line for buyers with fewer items.

The supermarket chain has tested the new conveyor belts in several stores in the Columbus area. At the new checkouts, shoppers still scan their own purchases, but it also transports the items to a packing station. An employee is waiting to pack your groceries.
With Kroger and other retailers struggling with a nationwide labor shortage, the checkout update could be just what stores need to speed up the checkout process and give shoppers more space.
“We’re excited to introduce this new enhancement to the customer shopping experience,” Kroger spokeswoman Jenifer Moore told Cincinnati.com.
Only two stores in the country tested the lanes, both of which are in the Columbus area. This spring, 42 stores in the Cincinnati area will each get two lanes.
This is just one example of how Kroger is becoming more customer-friendly. Despite this, the chain was recently forced to enforce purchase restrictions on items such as baby food, petrol and pet food due to ongoing shortages. Walmart and Costco also had to enforce these policies.
