JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot is collaborating with Warner Bros. on a live-action Hot Wheels film, another sign that Mattel takes filmmaking very seriously.

Warner Bros. and Mattel Films announced today that Bad Robot has signed on to produce a live-action Hot Wheels feature film that, in a press release, will showcase “some of the hottest, sleekest cars, monster trucks and motorcycles in the world.” is described. Speaking about the collaboration, Mattel Films Executive Producer Robbie Brenner didn’t provide any plot details, but did hint that the new project is targeting a broad segment of the Hot Wheels fan base.

“As a global leader in car culture, Hot Wheels has instilled the challenger spirit in car enthusiasts for generations,” said Brenner. “Fans of all ages can now look forward to the ride of a lifetime as the incredible talent of JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot joins us alongside Warner Bros. But Hot Wheels might as well be a movie to watch out for, especially if Warner Bros. and Mattel have blueprints for it to be their answer to Universal’s Fast & Furious franchise.
