Bizarre moment drunk-driving suspect performs a BACKFLIP during a police sobriety test – before asking what police meant by ‘walking in a straight line’

  • Tanner Watson, 27, was pulled over by the Broadview Heights Police Department in Ohio on November 23 for speeding
  • When asked to walk in a straight line during a field sobriety test, he did a backflip instead
  • After being told he still had to walk in a straight line, he began arguing with the officer about what the definition of a straight line was
  • Watson, who admitted to having had three or four beers, was arrested on POI and speeding charges

This is the bizarre moment a drunk-driving suspect backflipped to convince police he was sober before arguing with the bureau over his definition of a straight line.

Tanner Watson, 27, was pulled over by the Broadview Heights Police Department in Ohio on November 23 for speeding.

As officers approached the window, they said they smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the four occupants and Watson clumsily pulled over while stopping.

Watson – who admitted to having had three or four beers – was pulled from the car to take a field sobriety test, during which he impressed the officer by doing a backflip after failing a horizontal gaze test.

“You drive pretty badly, your eyes are super shiny. I can smell alcohol from you, so I want to run some sobriety tests on you,” the unidentified officer said.

After showing six indicators of impairment under Cleveland 19 during the eye test, the officer instructs Watson to walk in a straight line.

Moments later, the young man does a backflip, causing the officer to laugh.

“That’s good, man,” said the officer. ‘I can’t, I’m telling you.’

Despite his Olympic-level move, Watson was still told he had to walk in a straight line, at which point the allegedly drunk man asked, “I’m asking you what should I do as a straight line?”

Watson’s confusion over what a straight line is prompts the officer to ask him if he “did he take any psychedelics today, man?”

Watson tells the officer “no” and then becomes argumentative, telling the officer, “To me, I imagine a straight line versus your straight line would be obscured.”

The officer then asked the man to put his hands behind his back and arrested him for a POI and will be charged with speeding.

Watson goes on to ask the officer if he has “any proof” that he is drunk, and the officer replied, “Tanner, you can’t even tell me what a straight line is.”

Watson later said he was “disappointed” that he couldn’t convince the officer he was sober, according to WKRG.

Watson was arraigned on an OVI charge on Thursday and released on bail.
