Avatar: The Water Way has broken even, the next films are being made

Director James Cameron revealed a Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace? from HBO Max that Avatar: The Way of Water has passed or will certainly exceed break-even point and that therefore the production of later films of the series is guaranteed: “It looks like the film will break even at the current pace in the next few days, so apparently I’m not getting off that. I have to do the sequels. So now I already know what I’m doing I’m going to do it in the next six or seven years. We’re going to do it.”

The director previously revealed that the film’s break-even point is set 2 billion dollars, a truly monstrous character considering very few films have achieved it. He also stated that the market will decide the fate of the next films.

Cameron wasn’t sure success of Avatar: The Water Path because it’s been a long time since the first movie and the world has changed since then, between the pandemic and the rise of streaming culture.

So expect the arrival of Avatar 3, 4, and 5, which are scheduled for release in 2024, 2026, and 2028, respectively. If you want more information about the film, read our review of Avatar: The Water Way, in which we wrote that “instant starts strong and hardly slows down, offers three hours of entertainment without great intellectual pretensions, but of great audiovisual satisfaction. Some dialogues could have been written better and some situations could have been handled more elegantly, but this second chapter will also accompany you to the discovery of an extremely fascinating planet that is brimming with action and good feelings. It’s a good introductory chapter that introduces the motivations that will be developed in subsequent films, hoping it doesn’t take Cameron another 13 years to bring the film Pandora’s Journey to the cinemas.”
