Apple could unveil its augmented reality headset at WWDC 2023

It’s no longer a secret: Apple is preparing to launch its first augmented reality and virtual reality headsets. However, it is not yet known when this new product from Cupertino could be presented. While we were expecting a 2022 release, the helmet didn’t finally arrive. And now we think the Apple headset should be unveiled and then marketed later this year.

And according to a recent release from analyst Ming Chi Kuo, the presentation won’t happen this January (as some might have hoped). “Development of Apple’s AR/MR headset has been behind schedule due to issues with mechanical component drop testing and the availability of software development tools,” the analyst said. As a result, bulk shipments of the Apple headset would be delayed from Q1 2023 to Q2 or Q3 2023.

According to Kuo, Apple is increasingly unlikely to host an event for its AR/VR headset this January. And the product would be more likely to be unveiled during a special event in the spring or during the WWDC 2023 annual conference. This should take place in June. And if WWDC is primarily a software event (showcasing new versions of iOS and macOS), Apple could again have a few surprises in store for us. Sources also suggest that Apple could unveil its new Mac Pro during the WWDC conference.

A very important start

In any case, this will be a very important product launch for Apple. Its CEO Tim Cook has never hidden his enthusiasm for augmented reality. And augmented reality products could also secure the company’s future in the long term. In fact, some projections suggest that within a few years, augmented reality glasses will replace smartphones.

For this reason, Meta, Mark Zuckerberg’s company, continues to invest billions of dollars a year in the development of the Metaverse and its future augmented reality headsets, despite criticism and unfavorable macroeconomic conditions.

“While I expect phones will remain our primary devices for most of this decade, sometime in the 2020s we will have groundbreaking augmented reality glasses that will redefine our relationship with technology,” wrote Mark Zuckerberg in 2020.
