Colombian President Gustavo Petro will travel to Caracas this Saturday where he will hold an extraordinary meeting with his Venezuelan counterpart Nicolás Maduro.
The meeting between the two leaders will take place around 1:00 p.m. (Venezuelan time).
Colombian Ambassador to Venezuela Armando Benedetti confirmed the visit and announced that he would be present at the bilateral meeting.“Today is President Gustavo Petro’s second visit to Caracas following the re-establishment of relations between Colombia and Venezuela. I will accompany him with the conviction to continue working for a common agenda of two sister nations,” the diplomat wrote on his Twitter account.
In addition to issues related to restoring ties, leaders are expected to discuss the issue of Colombia’s National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrillas, with whom the Colombian government is negotiating in Caracas.
The meeting comes a week after both countries fully reopened their borderswith the inauguration of the Atanasio Girardot Bridge, which connects the Colombian department of Norte de Santander to the Venezuelan state of Táchira.
After meeting Maduro, the President of Colombia will pay a state visit to Chilewhere he will meet his counterpart Gabriel Boric.
